What’s your plan, 2016? – alyssa calbert

Let’s not make New Year resolutions for 2016, OK? I am so tired of listening to people say, “2015 was not my year. I want to (insert resolution here) in 2016 and have the best year ever.” Don’t get me wrong, I do believe that the only way to become a better person and reach your dreams is by setting goals, but when you compare the top 10 New Year resolutions and the top 10 BROKEN New Year resolutions, they are the exact same list.

  1. Lose Weight and Get Fit
  2. Quit Smoking
  3. Learn Something New
  4. Eat Healthier and Diet
  5. Get Out of Debt and Save Money
  6. Spend More Time with Family
  7. Travel to New Places
  8. Be Less Stressed
  9. Volunteer
  10. Drink Less

The problem is this is not a list of 10 things that are impossible to achieve, but it’s a list of ideas when it needs to be a list of actions.

So, I sit here today and challenge you. I challenge you to create a plan for the new year. Do you want that promotion at work? Okay, how are you going to get it? You want to slim down for your wedding. Okay, how are you going to achieve it? Personally, I plan to take more time for myself in 2016, because after 22 year of always trying to please other people, I think it’s time to have a year for me. My plan includes writing more and focusing less on social media and more on building relationships in face to face.
